Our Advisory Board has the following members: Suzanne Hartman Byerley, former co-director of MCWC, now writes and teaches in Northern Ohio. Carolyn Cooke teaches in the Writing and Consciousness Program at the California Institute of Integral Studies in San Francisco. She has received grants from the National Endowment for the Arts and the California Arts Council. Jody Gehrman teaches at Mendocino College in northern California. She is a novelist, playwright, and writer of fiction for young adults. Ronnie Gilbert is a folksinger and activist, best known as one of the founding members of the pioneering folk quartet, the Weavers. Charlotte Gullick was director of MCWC from 2006 through 2009. She is now Department Chair of the Creative Writing Department at Austin Community College, Austin, Texas. Dorianne Laux serves on the faculty at North Carolina State University's MFA Program. Recipient of a National Endowment for the Arts fellowship in poetry along with a Guggenheim Fellowship and many other prizes, her most recent collection of poetry Facts About the Moon was awarded the 2007 Oregon Book Award. John Lescroart writes bestselling legal thrillers set in San Francisco that have been translated into 16 languages in more than 75 countries. Valerie Miner is the award-winning author of thirteen books. Winner of a Distinguished Teaching Award, with over twenty-five years college faculty experience she now teaches at Stanford University. Gary Snyder, acclaimed poet, essayist, visionary, and environmental activist, is the author of 18 books. He is professor emeritus at the University of California at Davis. |
The Advisory Board's role is to help us grow the caliber of what we offer our participants and show the larger literary community the importance of writing deeply into the issues of our world. Our Advisory Board helps maintain the essence of what makes the Mendocino Coast Writers Conference unique, it's down-to-earth atmosphere coupled with superb teaching. |
